Kirsch Traverse Rods
Kirsch has built drapery hardware for more than a century. Its traverse rods come in four families: decorative Estate Traverse Rods, slim Hollis Traverse Rods, commercial-grade Architrac drapery track and the concealed Superfine Pro. Pick by how much of the hardware you want to see, how heavy your draperies are and where the rod will be mounted.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a traverse rod?
A traverse rod moves your draperies on carriers that glide along a channel or track. You open and close them with a cord, a baton or by hand instead of pulling on the fabric itself. On a stationary decorative pole, the rings slide directly on the rod and you move the panels by hand.
Which Kirsch manual rod should I choose?
Choose Estate when the rod is part of the room's design. Choose Hollis when you want a decorative, slim 1 in. traverse rod that matches stationary 1 in. Designer Metals hardware. Choose Architrac for commercial spaces, long spans or heavy draperies. Choose Superfine Pro when you want an affordable rod hidden behind the drapery heading.
One-way or center draw: which do I need?
A one-way rod stacks all the drapery on one side, which suits sliding doors and windows next to a wall. A two-way (center-open) rod splits the drapery in the middle and stacks it on both sides. Estate comes in both, from 18 in. up to 16 ft.
How long can a Kirsch Estate traverse rod be?
Estate rods come from 18 in. up to 16 ft, in 1 3/8 in. or 2 in. diameter, one-way or two-way. Both sizes carry up to 64 lb of drapery. For wider openings, ask us about Architrac.
How do I measure for a traverse rod?
Measure the width of the window, including the trim. Then decide how far past each side the rod should go, so the open drapery stacks off the glass. Most rods are mounted at least 4 in. above the window frame. Send us your measurements and we'll confirm the rod length.
How many brackets do I need?
For Estate, Kirsch says to place a bracket at each end. On a stacking end, the next bracket goes no more than 24 in. from the end bracket, and the rest go every 48 in. Heavier draperies may need closer spacing.
Cord draw or baton draw: what's the difference?
With cord draw, you pull a cord at one end of the rod to open and close the draperies, so you never touch the fabric. With baton draw, a slim wand attaches to the lead carrier and you guide the drapery by hand. Baton draw is cordless, which makes it a popular choice in homes with children and pets. Architrac offers both, and Estate also offers hand draw.
Are cord-draw rods safe for homes with children?
Loose cords can be a strangulation hazard for young children and pets. If that's a concern, choose a cordless option: baton draw (Architrac 94003, Hollis, or Estate with a baton) or hand draw.
Which rods work with ripplefold draperies?
Estate, Hollis and Architrac all accept both pleated and ripplefold headings. Superfine Pro is made for pleated draperies.
Do I need special draperies for ripplefold?
Yes. Ripplefold draperies have a snap tape heading that clips onto the rod's carriers and creates soft, even S-shaped folds. Pleated draperies hang from pin hooks instead. Tell us your heading style and we'll match the right carriers.
What's the difference between an overlap master and a butt master?
They're the carriers at the center, where the two panels meet. With an overlap master, the panels overlap when closed, for full coverage and privacy. With a butt master, they meet edge to edge, for an uninterrupted row of folds. Estate offers both.
How much weight can these rods hold?
It depends on the series. Superfine Pro is designed for lighter draperies. Estate rods are built for heavier draperies. Architrac is commercial grade, and the 94001 and 94003 tracks support up to 80 lb on a one-way rod or 160 lb on a two-way rod with manual draw.
Can these rods mount to the wall or the ceiling?
Estate, Hollis and Superfine Pro mount to the wall or the ceiling. Architrac has the most options: depending on the model, it mounts to the wall or ceiling, or recessed into the ceiling.
Which Kirsch rods work with finials and decorative brackets?
Estate and Hollis. Estate uses the finials and brackets of Kirsch Designer Metals, Wood Trends or Wrought Iron. Hollis has six of its own finials and uses 1 in. Designer Metals brackets. Architrac and Superfine Pro are functional rods without finials.
Are motorized versions available?
This page covers manual rods only. For motorized drapery systems, see the Motorized section in the main menu.
